Steffan Ahrenberg, Eyal Rimmon, Anthony Hickox: : Films & tv. He was actually in a relationship with Deborah Foreman during the making of the movie, making the out-of-place intimacy of the sexually-charged Marquis de Sade scene even more eyebrow-raising. Waxwork II: Lost in Time is a 1992 American dark fantasy comedy film written and directed by Anthony Hickox. don’t really know anything, but this is not something of which I require convincing, so it’s preaching to the choir there. It does perhaps work as a satire on the art world, pointing out how art critics, etc. Miller is endearing at first, a geeky wannabee artist, reduced to clearing tables in the local hangout, until he discovers he can be acclaimed an artist, simply by covering corpses in clay.īy about the second murder, however, any empathy for him was fast evaporating and I couldn’t find any other interesting characters to hold my attention. A triptych, the film tells the story of an out of work young poet (William Dieterle) who, upon seeing an advert for a writer in the situations vacant pages of a newspaper, heads. Like hippies, they seemed to take themselves far too seriously, so watching a movie populated by beats is like having teeth pulled for me. Released in 1924, Waxworks is a seminal silent movie that effectively helped to originate a popular standard in the horror genre the anthology or portmanteau movie. It’s really just a waxworks movie set in the beatnik era – never my favourite social group, thanks to their liking for freeform jazz, poetry readings and goatee beards. Hard to see why this, along with Little Shop of Horrors, is so highly regarded. Starring: Dick Miller, Barboura Morris, Antony Carbone, Julian Burton The likes of Drew Barrymore, Harrison Young, Alexander Godunov, David Carradine and Martin Kemp all pop up as well as Bruce Campbell in a hilarious role.

Irritability is often the first sign that we are off-balance. So let’s talk about something most everybody can relate to: irritability, fatigue, and brain fog. Some of us like the functional medicine doctor approach to science, but most of us get lost in the lingo. I love science and I thoroughly enjoy analyzing Functional Medicine lab results for my patients, but it’s not what I want to write about today. In this particular season in my life as a functional medicine doctor, I don’t want to write another science blog about how gut dysbiosis can disrupt the proper regulation of estrogen circulation (which can be shown on a DUTCH hormone test), or how low levels of methylmalonate on your GI-MAP gut test indicate not just low levels of vitamin B12, but also point to the possibility of poor digestion at the stomach level or even psychological stress as it suppresses the vagus nerve and consequently stunts digestive function throughout the entire GI tract. I want to talk about this because it’s deeply relevant to so many of my functional medicine readers. What causes brain fog, fatigue and irritability? But lately, the spectrum has broadened, from teenage girls battling anxiety to 20 year-olds fresh out of college but utterly burnt out, to 50+ year old women struggling through menopause and feeling like their bodies and brains are betraying them. Who are these women? It used to be working mothers typically in their 30s and 40s, juggling careers with children and marriage, social obligations, personal health, and beauty regimens. Is this you? Maybe your wife or your friend? Are you looking for a functional medicine doctor in the Los Angeles area who can help? In my functional medicine practice, I treat women with these issues on a daily basis. A template is a reusable document formatted to industry standards or your personal preference. Unlike total lunar eclipses, which can be viewed from roughly half of Earth’s surface, total and annular solar eclipses tightly restrict where you can see them because the Moon casts a smaller umbral shadow than Earth does - and you need to be within that shadow to view the event. But when the Moon is slightly farther from Earth, its disk appears to small to block the entire Sun, and an annular (or ring) eclipse results. When the Moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, its umbra (shadow cone) reaches Earth's surface and thus completely covers the Sun. Annular eclipses of the Sun occur about as often as the total ones do. (The Moon’s orbit isn’t perfectly circular its eccentricity is about 5%.) This geometric circumstance is known as an annular eclipse, so-called because you can see a ring, or annulus, of sunlight surrounding the lunar disk. When that occurs, it’s usually because the Moon is farther from Earth than its average distance. Occasionally the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun but doesn’t completely cover it. With its brilliant disk completely covered, the Sun’s ghostly white outer atmosphere, called the corona, is momentarily revealed for durations from seconds to several minutes. If the Moon completely hides the Sun, the eclipse is considered total. This "eclipse window" is longer for partial solar eclipses than for total or annular events. Solar eclipses only happen near the time when the Moon crosses the ecliptic plane, an alignment that occurs twice each year. However, the geometric window for partial solar eclipses is wider, roughly five weeks long. (But there’s still an element of luck involved - after all, the sky has to be clear!) Solar EclipsesĪnnular and total solar eclipses require the Moon to cross directly in front of the Sun as seen from Earth - and, as the graphic below shows, such “central” solar eclipses can only occur within a two-week-long interval when the Moon crosses the ecliptic during one of its two nodal crossings each year. All four of 2020’s lunar eclipses were of the penumbral variety.įortunately, every lunar eclipse is observable anywhere on Earth where the Moon is above the horizon. A sharp-eyed observer will notice that one side of the full Moon’s disk looks a little dusky. If the Moon ventures just partly into the umbra, as pictured here, only the partial phases occur - you’ll see some of the Moon in nearly full sunlight, and some of it steeped in the deep, red-tinged umbral shadow.Īnd if its disk passes just outside the umbra, the Moon still encounters the weak penumbral shadow cast by Earth. That was the case during the widely viewed event in September 2015, which marked the conclusion of a series of four consecutive total lunar eclipses! Such eclipse tetrads are not common - the last one occurred during 2003–04, but the next won’t begin until 2032. If the Moon goes all the way in, we see a total lunar eclipse that’s preceded and followed by partial phases. Three types of lunar eclipse are possible ( total, partial, and penumbral), depending on how deeply the full Moon plunges into or near the umbra, our planet’s dark, central shadow.Ī long-exposure image captured red hues on the portion of the Moon inside the umbra during the lunar eclipse on October 8, 2014. So since the last eclipse of 2022 occurred in early November, the first eclipse of 2023 doesn’t take place until April 20th. (The technical name for that, by the way, is syzygy.) And, as the diagram above implies, those alignments occur roughly a half year apart. These alignments don’t happen at every new and full Moon because the lunar orbit is tipped about 5° to Earth’s orbital plane - only occasionally do the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up exactly enough for an eclipse to occur. in August 2017, occurs only at new Moon, when the lunar disk passes directly between us and the Sun and consequently the Moon’s shadow falls somewhere on Earth’s surface.Ĭonversely, a lunar eclipse takes place during full Moon, when our satellite passes through Earth’s shadow. Eclipse “windows” occur six months apart.īefore describing this year’s individual events, let’s explore some eclipse basics.Ī solar eclipse, such as the one seen coast to coast across the U.S. Eclipses of the Sun or Moon can only occur when the Moon crosses the plane of Earth's orbit (orange circle) very close to the time of new or full Moon. Trello is more Agile than Waterfall, still the PMI’s Pulse of the Profession 2017® shows how 89% of world’s business still needs Waterfall to a certain extent. (5) BigPicture unites Agile and WaterfallĪgile and Waterfall are mainstream project management concepts, with Agile perceived as “modern” and Waterfall – “proven”. A power-up likely better integrates with Trello than its “non-power-up” counterpart. A power-up is an “official” app for Trello. This is especially true with Gantt charts, with the majority of them not being power-ups ( compare). Not all Trello extensions are actual power-up’s. Our chief developer examined quite a number of Trello power-ups and we dare say: BigPicture is one of the most advanced and fully-developed apps for Trello, even in the “Gantt charts” league. (3) BigPicture is probably the biggest power-up for Trello Jira users pay for it and as a by-product you can now use this mature app in Trello. Both can fly, but aren’t these slightly different flights? We’ve initially developed BigPicture for Jira. (2) BigPicture is connected with Jira ecosystem We have, however, no plans to charge for BigPicture. Even today you need to pay for many mature power-ups. It has to with Atlassian having taken over control of Trello. What are the five things you need to know about BigPicture for Trello? (1) BigPicture is freeĪlthough Trello is a buckshee world, this status quo might be about to change. BigPicture enriches your Trello instance with Gantt charts, an extremely popular project management technique in enterprises who have crossed those “100 tasks” or “10 team members” boundaries. There is a middle-of-the-market solution, namely BigPicture for Trello. So has the time come to give up Trello and negotiate the learning curve of Jira? Not necessarily. How about if you’re a small businesses that eventually grows out of a local market? With dozens of team members and numerous concurrent projects you might suddenly realize you are too big for Trello. Trello positions itself on the “simplicty” end of the market. We were intrigued, however, by simple ring-opening reactions of nucleophiles with ECPs because of their relation to Michael additions and nucleophilic substitutions at sp 3-hybridized carbon centers ( Fig. More recently, the Werz group used in situ 19F NMR kinetics to survey substituent effects on the reactivity of SnCl 4-complexed 1,1-di(alkoxycarbonyl)-substituted cyclopropanes in (3 + 2)-cycloadditions with p-fluorobenzaldehyde, which had been reported to follow a complex mechanism. focused on a few reactions of dimedone- and Meldrum’s acid derived ECPs with pyridines. Previous kinetic studies by McKinney et al. Reactivity of electrophilic cyclopropanes.ĭespite their key role in organic synthesis, a reliable and broadly applicable characterization of the polar reactivity of ECPs had not been available until recently. Additionally, (3 + 2), (3 + 3), and (4 + 3) cycloadditions, , as well as rearrangements and ring-opening reactions of functionalized cyclopropanes offer access to many, structurally diverse building blocks. The manifold of options for chemical transformations of such donor-acceptor substituted cyclopropanes has been reviewed frequently, ,, ,, ,, ,, , and includes various modes for the preparation of carbo- and heterocycles. To further enhance the synthetic versatility of electrophilic cyclopropanes (ECPs) electron-donating groups can be installed at C2 of the cyclopropane ring ( Fig. Cyclopropanes with electron-accepting groups can thus be potent σ-electrophiles that undergo polar reactions with nucleophiles to give methylene-extended Michael adducts. The reactivities of cyclopropanes are governed by the ring strain, which boosts the thermodynamic driving force of ring-opening reactions by more than 100 kJ mol −1, as well as by the electronic nature of the substituents. Īlso substituted cyclopropanes constitute a versatile class of compounds. Owing to their importance, the kinetics of Michael additions have extensively been investigated to characterize the electrophilic reactivities of electron-deficient π-systems, ,,. Variation of the electronic properties of the aryl groups at C2 gave rise to parabolic Hammett relationships.Īdditions of nucleophiles to the electron-deficient π-systems of Michael acceptors are among the best understood organic reactions and frequently used in organic synthesis for C–C- or C–X bond formations. Interestingly, cyclopropanes with aryl substituents at the C2 position reacted faster than their unsubstituted analogues. The experimentally determined second-order rate constants k 2 for cyclopropane ring-opening reactions were then compared to those of related Michael additions. Monitoring the kinetics of non-catalytic ring-opening reactions with a series of thiophenolates and other strong nucleophiles, such as azide ions, in DMSO provided the inherent S N2 reactivity of electrophilic cyclopropanes. The polarization of the C1–C2 bond in 1-acceptor-2-donor-substituted cyclopropanes not only favorably enhances reactivity toward nucleophiles but also directs the nucleophilic attack toward the already substituted C2 position. Consequently, functionalized cyclopropanes are frequently used building blocks in organic synthesis. Analogous reactions at cyclopropanes with additional C2 substituents allow one to access difunctionalized products. Cyclopropanes that carry an electron-accepting group react as electrophiles in polar, ring-opening reactions. |
